Why did you use a screen for the soffit vent?

A screened soffit vent looks better than the typical metal soffit vent; A screened soffit vent does a better job of keeping bugs and rodents out of the roof ventilation system; A frequent mechanism for the spread of a forest fire to house involves flying airborn embers and the like being sucked into the roof ventilation system -- a screened soffit makes such on occurrence less likely.
